Xavier Dachez comes from a family where photography has been passed down through several generations. His great-great-grandmother, his father, and his uncle were all photographers. As a child, he accompanied his father and uncle on photo shoots, including at the Ritz in Paris, the Élysée Palace, and the Hôtel Matignon. That’s where his passion for images began, and where he started learning the craft like an artisan: by observing, practicing, and paying close attention to detail.
Now based in Quebec City, Xavier photographs events and takes on commercial assignments. He has worked in industrial settings for Rio Tinto Alcan and Groupe Océan, and photographed the Quebec Winter Carnival, the Transat Québec–Saint-Malo, and Red Bull Crashed Ice. His career has also taken him into gendarmerie photography and to assignments for Monaco Disease Power. For nearly twenty years, he was the official wedding photographer at the Hôtel de Glace.
Xavier is drawn to shoots that call for adaptability: from a helicopter or seaplane, aboard a boat, in the middle of a crowd, or at an industrial site. In these situations, he has to find his place quickly, anticipate what will happen, and capture the image at just the right moment. That challenge, along with the people and places he encounters, continues to fuel his passion for photography.
